Fire Safety Curriculum Most people are hurt or killed in a fire because they don't know what to do to make themselves
safe. Through a grant from the U.S. Fire Administration and in partnership with Fire Protection Publications
and Oklahoma State University, Seeds has created a fire safety curriculum designed to meet the learning needs of
people with developmental disabilities. This curriculum is designed to teach people with disabilities about home
exit plans and smoke detector maintenance so that they can respond independently to fire emergencies in their homes.
The Fire Safe curriculum has been pilot tested in California, Minnesota and North Dakota with measurable success.

A training manual for the curriculum has recently been added so that service providers can provide this education to people with developmental disabilities. All of these training materials are currently distributing accessible from the web-site and are downloadable for all to use for trainings and awareness. |

Seeds Educational Services created a series of Fire Awareness and Prevention educational films which feature many actors with disabilities and fire survivors. The films were designed to be used in conjunction to the whole curriculum -- not to be used alone. Fire Film #1 "Where Were You When The Fire Started?" is a documentary-style interview film with survivors of fire stiuations. Fire Film #2 "Be Armed, Have An Alarm" discusses where to place fire alarms. Fire Film #3 Fire Safety For One And All" shows how to place fire safety information in the home and how to practice it. Fire Film #4 "Be Armed, Have An Alarm, Part 2" is about fire alarm maintenance. Please contact the Seeds Educational Services offices about how to get the fire education films.
