Seeds Educational Services, Inc.

Services

SEEDS Education offers a variety of direct services. These encompass abuse investigation, behavioral consulting, day and evening classes, curriculum development, socialization opportunities and public speaking and outreach. Programs and services are provided in a variety of community settings and at our office.

Behavioral Consulting
Behavioral consulting is provided individually or in small group sessions. These consultations address immediate comportment concerns that cannot be appropriately handled in a classroom environment and may require specialized training. Consultations are offered at the Seeds Educational Services office in Old Town near the Trolley/Bus station or at the individual's work or home.

Living Proof of Behavioral Consulting Success

As the stranger exposed himself to her in the elevator, Tawnya Ormsbee yelled "NO!" and rushed off on the next floor to call the police. Ormsbee's newfound assertiveness is proof that SEEDS' behavioral counseling service is an effective means of teaching people with developmental disabilities sexual abuse prevention techniques.

Stacy Everson, director of SEEDS, had this to say about Ormsbee's encounter:

Before Tawnya started attending our behavioral consulting sessions, she would have let him do whatever he wanted without saying a thing. After this incident, she told me that for the first time, she did not feel bad for the way she reacted. This is mainly because we have taught her how to be assertive and how to recognize inapporpriate behavior.

SEEDS provides behavioral consulting services, one-on-one or small group, individualized sessions that students attend when they need to discuss pertinent issues about sexuality that cannot be properly discussed in large class settings, such as:

  • Inappropriate behavior
  • Sexual behavior
  • Social behavior

During these sessions, Everson learns as much about the student's life as possible and then tries to incorporate the lessons she teaches them into every aspect of his/her life. For exapmle, knowing that Ormsbee had been sexually abouse in the past, Everson tailored her sessions to revolve around sexual abuse prevention.

 Classes
Seeds Educational Services offers many classes throughout San Diego County. Classes are offered during the day and in the evening to adults with developmental disabilities.  These classes are taught in small-to-large group settings and teach socialization, boundaries, and abuse awareness and prevention. Classes and activities are designed to support people with developmental disabilities and teach them how to relate effectively with others in their community. SEEDS instructors tailor the classes to meet the specific needs of each group. For many students, the classes are an introduction to social norms, sexual education, relationships, boundaries, abuse awareness and prevention. The classes and activities provide a safe environment for students to learn , ask questions and practice new skills. Socialization opportunities (picnics, parties) are offered five times a year to augment skills learned in classes and offer a safe environment for students to practice socializing. Please contact the office for a complete schedule and information regarding classes near you. Contact Us
